Hike through a local ecosystem while exploring, observing, investigating, learning, and doing hands-on activities with environmental educators from the Sandia Mountain Natural History Center.

Description

Learn with educators from the Sandia Mountain Natural History Center (SMNHC) about ecosystems of New Mexico. Students are introduced to their local ecosystem and its components through a day of hiking, field exploration, and hands-on learning in the outdoors. Students learn how real scientists study the natural world and have the chance to try out the methods and tools they use, discover connections among the abiotic (non-living) and biotic (living) parts, share their observations, and have their questions answered by experienced environmental educators from the NM Museum of Natural History and Science, and Albuquerque Public Schools.

This program occurs in all kinds of weather conditions, and often includes hiking in steep, rocky, high elevation terrain.
